Student Exchange in Europe 2026: Schengen Insurance, Visa Requirements and Tips

Every year hundreds of thousands of students from outside Europe begin exchange programs in EU universities. Getting the insurance right before arrival prevents major problems during your studies.

Schengen Student Visa Insurance Requirement

Student visa applicants for Schengen countries must provide an insurance certificate covering the full duration of their studies, valid in all Schengen states, with minimum EUR 30,000 medical coverage and repatriation. Erasmus+ and Other Exchange Programs

Erasmus+ students receive a basic European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from their home institution.
